Yard Waste Site

Season:

       Starts: Saturday, April 6, 2024

       Ends: Tuesday, November 26, 2024

Hours:
Tues & Thurs - 1 pm - 7 pm (Site Closes at 6:00 pm on or after October 15th)

Saturdays - 8 am - 3 pm 

             NOTE: Site may close early due to inclement weather or darkness.

Fees:

City of Stoughton $25/year and Non-Residents $30/year. You can purchase a permit at the Yard Waste Site or at the Public Works Building during normal business hours when the Yard Waste Site is closed.

The permit sticker must be permanently affixed to lower left hand corner of the front windshield driver’s side. A 2nd sticker is available for $5.00 if you have multiple vehicles using the site from the same household. If your sticker is lost, you can get a replacement for $5.00.

 Accepted Items :

      Brush - Tree Limbs, sticks, twigs, bushes, no root balls.

Logs - No more than 18” in diameter and 6 feet in length or less. No root balls accepted.

     Yard Waste - is defined as grass, leaves, garden waste, plant debris and wood products that are less than 1/4 inch in diameter (size of #2 pencil) & amp; 6 inches in length.

Garden Plant or Shrub Root Balls Can be Taken to the Yard Waste Site (Example: Hanging plants, hostas, tomato plants, evergreens, etc)

 Items NOT Accepted:

Manufactured wood products i.e. construction timbers, decking material, steel, hazardous waste, appliances, garbage or other refuse. Any illegal dumping will not be tolerated.

The site may not be used by Commercial Contractors. If you hired a contractor to do work on your trees, they are responsible to dispose of the wood material.

Please note: The yard waste site attendant is not required to assist you with unloading your brush or yard waste but, may choose to if time permits.

                               - Mulch

Leaf Collection

During leaf Collection, We will Collect the Following:

- Leaves

-Garden Materials (no root balls)

- Any Organic Leafy Material

Please Do NOT Mix Brush or Sticks into the Leaf Pile. Woody Material will be Collected During Brush Collection.

2024 Spring Leaf Collection Schedule - You may place leaves and grass on the terrace starting Monday, March 25, 2024 through Sunday, April 21, 2024. (Weather Permitting)

2024 Fall Leaf Collection Schedule - You may place leaves and grass on the terrace starting on Monday, October 7, 2024 through Sunday, December 1, 2024 (Weather Permitting).

Please make sure to have your leaves and grass out on the terrace (the area between the curb and sidewalk) by Monday morning of the collection week.  Depending on volume, it may take several days to get through the entire City.  Crews will make every effort to get through the entire City each week, but volume and weather may delay collection. 

Please keep leaves and grass away from mailboxes, posts/signs and fire hydrants. Please do not put leaves in the gutter or street and remove brush, rocks or garbage from the leaves.  Leaves should not be bagged or in any sort of container. Please leave adequate room on the street to accommodate the large equipment.  You may also take leaves and grass to the yard waste site (a permit is required). 

Brush Collection

During Brush Collection, We will Collect the following:

- Tree Branches 8 Feet in Length or Less

- Sticks, Twigs

- Tree Logs 6 inches in Diameter or Less

Do NOT Mix Grass or Other Leafy Materials in with Your Brush. This Material will be Collected During Leaf Collection.

 2024 Brush Collection Dates:

   April 22nd

   June 24th

      August 26th

    October 28th

Please have all brush out on the terrace by 6:00am on the Monday of the collection week.  Collection may take several days depending on volume and weather.  Every effort will be made to complete collection within the collection week, but again, this depends on volume and weather.  

Branches may have a maximum diameter of 6 inches, and a maximum length of 8 feet.  The pile must be 20 feet in length or less and fit within your terrace (the area between the curb and the sidewalk).  Your brush pile must not protrude into the roadway or onto the sidewalk.  Do not mix grass or leaves in with your brush.  The City will not collect any brush that was cut by a paid contractor.  You may also haul your brush to the yard waste site (an annual permit is required).

No Tree Root Balls Accepted

  • You will need to have them ground out by a contractor or use other means of disposal. 

Garden Plant or Shrub Root Balls Can be Taken to the Yard Waste Site (Example: Hanging plants, hostas, tomato plants, evergreens, etc)

  • Please do not place them on the terrace for collection as our leaf vacs cannot suck them up.

  • Remove all containers, rocks or other inorganic material before bringing them to the yard waste site.
