Schedule

Johns Disposal provides garbage and recycling collection for the City of Stoughton.  Half of the city is collected on Tuesday’s and the other half on Friday.  Click the link below to see your collection schedule day.  If you have larger items that will not fit in your cart, utilize the improved Bulky Pick-up program.

Garbage and Recycling Bin Placement:

All garbage and recycling bins should be placed at least 3 to 5 feet off the edge of the pavement, into your driveway, so that they are out of the way.

Please do not place garbage or recycling bins in the street - this creates a hazard as they could get hit by vehicles, taken away by a snowplow or in the way of the city street sweepers.

Packing Materials

Packing materials (packing peanuts, silver foam bags, air bags) can be taken to the UPS Store in Stoughton. Many people also use social media groups to give moving boxes and packing materials to others in the community that are looking for them.

Batteries

AA, AAA, C, D - All alkaline batteries can go in the regular garbage - i.e. these are landfill approved items.

Li-Ion, Li-Poly batteries must be recycled and can be taken to some big box stores like Lowe’s or Home Depot. These are the most dangerous batteries and can never go in the carts or an automated/compaction truck. These types of batteries can easily cause fires, even if they are fully discharged.

Electronic Recycling / E-Waste

Johns Disposal will now collect E-waste curbside as part of your bulky collection fee. You must Call John’s Disposal at 262-473-4700 to schedule your E-waste collection. You are allowed two electronic collections per year. You can place one electronic item out per use. Each electronic collection will take the place of your monthly bulky collection. For example, you are allowed 12 bulky collections per year (1 per month), if you use an E-waste collection in March, that would take the place of that months bulky item collection. You can do this twice per year.

The City of Stoughton Public Works Department will still offer electronics recycling during normal business hours.  A $15 fee will apply for TV’s, Computer Monitors, laptops and I-pads if you dispose of it at the Public Works Facility. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the curbside collection program which is part of your annual Trash and Recycling fee. This service is available to city residents only.  Please do not leave items outside of the door when the office is closed as the area will be monitored for illegal dumping. City residents will need to check in at the Public Works Department office located at 2439 County Highway A and show ID to verify city residency. If there are questions please contact us at (608) 873-6303.

Acceptable Items include desktop computers, laptops, printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, keyboards, mice, hard drives, flash drives, external modems, routers & other computer devices, cordless phones, DVD players, VCRs, BlueRay players, televisions ($15 fee per television), and monitors ($15 fee per monitor).  All items (other than those noted) are free to recycle if you are a resident inside the City of Stoughton Municipal Boundary.

NOTE: With computers make sure to remove all personal information or take out the hard drive and destroy it.
